Alcon Aggies

The "Alcon Aggies" is a Special Interest Group (SIG) incorporated within the Club. The Alcon Aggies focus on an Aggie network within Alcon Laboratories, Inc. (a phrarmaceutical/medical device company with its world headquarters in Fort Worth). The Alcon Aggies are a part of the Fort Worth/Tarrant County A&M Club, and their SIG leadership is responsible for coordinating and scheduling activities and events for Aggies who work at Alcon.

Mike Fenoglio ’76 coordinates activities for this group. According to Mike’s latest count, there are over 150 Aggies (or Aggie relatives) working at Alcon (the vast majority located at the Fort Worth location and a few Ags at Alcon’s Houston facility).

The Alcon Aggies founded a scholarship, through the Texas A&M Foundation, in honor of long-time Alcon employee and Aggie – Dr. Richard Poe ’64 – back in 1994 (prior to becoming part of the FW/TC A&M Club). Since the Fall of 1995, the Alcon Aggies have selected and awarded scholarships to relatives of Alcon employees who are attending Texas A&M. From 1994-2002, the scholarships were $1,000 each. In 2003, the group increased the scholarship amounts to $1,200, and in 2004, the group increased the quantity of scholarships to three (3) at $1,200 each! All of the funds come from Alcon Aggie donations, as well as a donation from the Alcon Foundation. Click here for a retrospective presentation.

The Alcon Aggies muster for lunch each April 21 (or the closest working day to Muster) to uphold the most honored Aggie tradition. In 2005, 35 Alcon Aggies mustered for lunch in the company cafeteria, watched a Muster video and conducted Roll Call. In addition to awarding scholarships and getting together for Muster, the group has a tight Aggie network within the company for keeping up with Aggie news, internal job openings and even an informal ticket exchange (for those Alcon Aggies looking for football tickets).

The Alcon Aggies want to challenge the other large companies in the area (i.e., Lockheed Martin, Bell Helicopter, Tandy, Miller, etc) to identify Aggies in your company to get involved with the Fort Worth/Tarrant County A&M Club and help expand the Aggie Network in Tarrant County!
